Assuming that the S.C.’s current demurral to act isn’t just about the procedural weirdness, it would uncork the abortion debate in the political realm. Currently, pro-lifers have the luxury of voting their principles rather than the interests. If everyone has to live with the consequences of the next election, people will be highly motivated, and likely vote much more self-interestedly.
